What is Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT)?

TF-CBT is a conjoint child and parent psychotherapy approach for children and adolescents who are experiencing significant emotional and behavioral difficulties related to traumatic life events.

It is a components-based treatment model that incorporates trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral, family, and humanistic principles and techniques.

Children and parents learn new skills to help process thoughts and feelings related to traumatic life events; manage and resolve distressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related traumatic life events; and enhance safety, growth, parenting skills, and family communication.

We have a new TF-CBT training learning collaborative starting up. See below for more information.

Applications: The application process is now open. You may either complete the application via our online registration link: . A PDF of the application is also attached here so that you are able to preview the questions prior to submitting your information. As this is a Learning Collaborative, only those who assemble a team/training group will be considered for a spot in the training. Each team will identify a team leader, who will complete the team portion of the application. Each additional team member should complete the individual portion for themselves. We encourage you to think creatively, and to see the attached handout, “Questions to Consider when Assembling Your Team” for assistance with this process. Applications are due on Monday, Feb. 1st at 5:00pm. Participants will be notified by Feb. 12th of their acceptance to the training.

“You would not believe the impact that the TF-CBT training has had on myself, on my clients, and the families that I work with. It has been life changing. I can’t even remember how I did more work before TF-CBT. I was recently at a CAC team meeting and I told them about TF-CBT and they were amazed by it. I can’t praise you guys [MoACTS] enough. It has been personally and professionally life changing. I have helped these kids so much better. And when I have questions I check in with my consultant, and the suggestions they gave me helped me work through the problem I was doing parts of this model before, but I didn’t know what it actually was, and this put things all together for me. I am so grateful.”
